Our Story

Heal.ed Tribe is a story of love, hope, resilience and connection. It is a story that arose from one person who had a passion and desire to do more. It is a story of our youth, a generation of incredible young people who exist within a society of challenge. It is a story of their fight their survival and their growth.

Arising from Megan’s private practice as a kinesiologist, Heal.ed tribe was born in 2015 , when a three day retreat was organised for a beautiful group of four young girls who were struggling from eating disorders and two, who were at the time, without a home. Megan had been working with these young girls and their families and had first hand witnessed the destruction that their mental health challenges was causing, as their bodies were ravaged and their minds were tormented. She had witnessed the burden on their families, as relationships fractured and the heartbreak for parents set in, as they watched their babies being torn away by these insidious and relentless disorders.

Megan simply knew that these families needed to be held and with the support of the community, an incredible weekend of connection, nurture and care was held and Heal.ed Tribe was born.

Heal.ed tribe is now in its 4th year. We have come together in many ways to support our youth and to build an understanding of mental health concerns. We pride ourselves on creating a community which supports, empowers and educates our youth so that they can flourish, understand their worth and be supported to be the best they can be.

It was Margaret Mead who said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Our Why

Quite simply…. our youth are in crisis!

The latest statistics from Resilient Youth Australia tell us that 40% of high school students and 24% of primary school students have mental health concerns. That is almost a third of every Australian classroom that you enter! Suicide is the largest cause of death amongst our young people and concerns such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression and harming are constantly on the rise. Mental illness is not a choice, it does not discriminate and sadly, it is the first and greatest challenge for many of our youth.

These statistics are scary but unfortunately are very real and sadly in today’s society we all know someone who is affected. On a daily basis, we connect with beautiful young people who are struggling to stay engaged, with family and friends, with school, with self and with life! They fight silent battles, battles that society often, simply don’t understand.

It is these personal stories that break our hearts and it is these personal stories that have led to the foundation of Heal.ed tribe. Each of us deserves to be recognised and be heard. Each of us deserves to understand and value our own worth and each of us deserves to be seen as the beautiful and unique individuals that we are.

This silent pandemic can no longer be denied and as a community we can no longer ignore the issues that confront our youth.

It is true to say that our youth form only a 16 percent of our population however they are 100% of our future. It’s time to create change!

Our vision is to bring together a community that understands mental illness and supports our youth to understand their worth. Our vision is to see a healthy future.
