Stories of Impact
Through the Dandelion Project, young people facing challenges have received mentorship, support, and guidance to help them grow, heal, and thrive.
Below, you’ll find a selection of their journeys, shared anonymously to protect their privacy. Each story shows the real difference sponsorship can make—offering hope, connection, and opportunity to young people who need it most.
Meet “X”
‘X’ is a resilient and bright young girl, navigating challenges with courage and hope.
‘X’ is a young girl, currently in Year 10 at a local high school. She is enquiring and wise and has an incredibly beautiful nature. ‘X’ is the single child of a single mother, and together they rely heavily upon each other for support. There has been a history of trauma that both ‘X’ and her mum are healing from. ‘X’ sadly has had a number of hospital admissions to support her mental wellbeing and is fighting hard to maintain her schooling, part time job, connection to community, friendships and joy.
Returning to her current school has its challenges and with the support of Heal.ed Tribes social worker we are looking at plans to not only re-enter the educational system this year but looking at how we can support ‘X’ to engage in future educational programs that she is passionate about.
‘X’ has wonderful dreams and aspirations and would like to attend Busy School in Coolangatta where she could complete her schooling while also engaging in a traineeship, apprenticeship or TAFE. In the future ‘X’ would love to complete a Certificate in Community Studies as she would love to support young people in our community, just as she has been supported. This would be an incredible future for her as she will have a deep understanding and compassion through her lived experience.
The family are struggling financially and there is a likelihood that further support may be required to support ‘X’s’ future wellbeing. As many young people are, ‘X’ is also somewhat socially isolated and needs connection with appropriate peers and mentors to not only provide social interaction and joy in life, but to nurture and guide her as she begins to find balance and move forward in a positive direction.
With the support of the Empower Program which will sit alongside her clinical support, ‘X’ will be able to receive six months of ongoing one on one therapeutic support, mentoring with a lived experience youth empowerment mentor and engagement with likeminded, fun loving peers. She will also be given access to a grounding, at home mental wellbeing yoga based program, created by one of our first ever Heal.ed Tribe recipients namastarryn. What is very special is that ‘X’ and her beautiful, dedicated mum will be able to participate in this program at home together : )
With the incredible donation of The Empower Program, ‘X’ will not only have a safe place to land each week but she will be wrapped in a community of connection, healing and care. This sponsorship will help ‘X’ move towards achieving all of her dreams and living a healthy, more empowered future.
“My name is ‘X’ and I’m so happy to have this sponsorship. It means so much to me that I can go and do therapies each week and go to group and be with people my age that understand me. Thank you so much for this opportunity I am so grateful.”
